Hello, I am Dr Alex Maer and I’d like to personally welcome you to my practice, DentalCare Carnegie. My team and I are here to look after you and we hope you have a comfortable and pleasant experience. I have been serving the local community for over 15 years. After graduating at the top of my class with Honours from the University of Melbourne, I moved to Ballarat for a year to work in a local dental clinic and gain a wide range of surgical experience. I then moved back to Melbourne and worked as a Senior Associate at East Bentleigh Dental Group for over 10 years, where I thoroughly enjoyed becoming a part of the local community.
Taking this experience into consideration, I have designed DentalCare Carnegie to be a state-of-the-art boutique practice, with a particular emphasis on patient comfort and care, as the name suggests. It is always a real privilege getting to know my patients over an extended time, treating entire families and making sure their experience at their dental appointments is comfortable and they leave smiling! I have special interests in crown and bridge work, implant dentistry, Root Canal Treatment, sleep dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, children dentistry as well as other general dentistry.
In my career I have successfully treated over 20,000 patients, many of whom have become friends. I have extensive experience treating nervous patients, children, special needs patients. Whether you need basic dentistry, all the way through to full mouth reconstructions with implants, crowns and bridges, I can look after you with skill and compassion.
I enjoy treating patients of all ages and I am committed to achieving optimum results for all my patients. I pride myself on being gentle, friendly and caring and I will go the extra mile to ensure all my patients are looked after and are happy with their treatment results.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have two little girls, who always put a smile on my face and who never turn down a chance at “going for a ride” in the dentist’s chair! I am an avid reader, enjoy discussions about health and politics and I am always interested in meeting new people and learning new things. I look forward to meeting you and will strive to look after your dental health to the absolute best of my ability and to form a lifelong doctor-patient relationship.

Dr Tammer graduated in 2001 from the University of Queensland Dental School. During this time, his talents
were clear upon receiving the Bede-Heinz Scholarship and later publishing his research work within the
specialized Endodontic (Root Canal Treatment) literature. Following graduation, he began his career in General Dentistry at Pakenham, then later moved practice to Ringwood, where he remained for the better part of 15yrs.
He’s experienced in many disciplines, but has a special interest in comprehensive care, listening to his patients
and helping them understand their oral health, their options and how they can maintain or create a natural
healthy smile. He is keen on developing and improving gum health and shape, improving the appearance and
sensitivity from gum recession and augmenting the gums to create a solid foundation for a healthy mouth and
As a child he had difficult dental experiences that caused him concern and anxiety about going to the dentist,
until one family dentist helped him get over that fear. Today, Dr Tammer feels strongly that these encouraging
experiences should be part of dentistry, his gentle nature and great sense of humour make Dr Tammer easy for our patients to relate to as he guides you through the journey to attain your dental goals. One of the most rewarding experiences Dr Tammer has found in dentistry is giving people their confidence
back, whether that be simply developing an understanding of their mouths or creating beautiful, natural lookingsmile makeovers to improve the look, function and lives of his patients. Dr Tammer loves to hear about the lives and challenges that people have had, so we can work together to create goals and plan care to fit each person, building confidence and function for life.
When not in the chair, Dr Tammer spends time with his family and friends. He enjoys many sports from the
AFL to the tennis, or enjoys the quiet pace of sipping coffee at a corner café. When not engaged in the above,
he loves to barbeque, but in reality, these are just ways to enjoy time with people that you share those
Most people will require a complex surgical extraction of a tooth sometime during their life. It’s not a procedure patients particularly look forward to, but it certainly doesn’t need to be feared or put off. Many patients undergoing orthodontic treatment and may require extractions or exposure of unerupted teeth as part of the overall treatment, while some teens and young adults will require extraction of wisdom teeth as they come of age.
Here at DentalCare Carnegie we employ the expert services of Dr Paul Aulakh, a dedicated professional Dental Surgeon who has special interest in the areas of implantology and complex extractions. He has decades of experience in this field and has acquired skills to complete these procedures with ease, and aims to minimise patients' anxiety.
Extraction of wisdom teeth is in most cases a routine procedure and can be completed by Dr Paul Aulakh in one visit. All four wisdom teeth can be removed at your appointment. We recommend patients take a couple of days off school or work to aid in the healing process.
The average cost of extracting all four wisdom teeth is $1400, inclusive of consultation. When an OPG x-ray is required, an additional fee of $125 will apply.
Many people do not realise that most wisdom teeth can be removed quickly and easily under Local Anaesthetic, thus avoiding the need to go into hospital and be put to sleep under a General Anaesthetic. An extraction of 4 wisdom teeth in hospital under a General Anaesthetic can often cost over $3500. Hence, having the procedure at our clinic significantly reduces cost and recovery, which means you can get on with your life faster!
